Annual Scouting for Food
The Northern Star Council’s Annual Scouting for Food Drive is a great opportunity for Pack 72 to participate in community service. Bags for Scouting for Food are distributed to representatives of each Den during the April Pack 72 Committee Meeting. In a nutshell the process works like this. - Approximately five days prior to pick up date, Scouts leave bags at houses.
- On the pick up date, Cub Scouts pick up bags from the homes where the bags have been left.
- Alternatively, on Saturday the Scouts could canvass homes within the neighborhood and ask for donations to Scouting for Food using the designated "Scouting for Food Bags".
- Lastly, if the food collection effort does not work into your schedule, simply donate a bag of food from you family (and/or from your neighbor) to the local food shelf during the Scouting for Food drive. If each family from our Pack donated one bag, it adds up to over 60 bags - each and every donation is significant!
Pack 72 has a designated area which includes all of Stonemill Farms. - On the pick up date, a representative from Pack 72 will be in the Liberty Ridge Parking lot from 8:00 am - 9:00 am with maps of the area to assist in organizing Scouts if they plan to canvass the neighborhood.
Scouting for Food collection points are in Woodbury and Stillwater. In Woodbury, donations are collected at the Woodbury Christian Cupboard located on the lower level of Woodbury Lutheran Church. Woodbury Christian Cupboard Woodbury Lutheran Church 7380 Afton Road Woodbury, MN 55125 - Lower parking lot on the west side of the building - church with copper roof across from Target on Valley Creek Road
Scouting for Food Drop off times at Woodbury Christian Cupboard are from approximately 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM. However, I have been told it generally remains open until 2:00 PM. - Boy Scouts will be working in the food shelf to collect food. Be sure to tell them you are from Pack 72 so your donation is properly credited to our Pack.
To all who participate in the Scouting for Food drive, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your effort. Remember to “do a good turn daily”. Helping other people at all times is what Scouting is all about and this spirit of service is instilled through experience. | Last Modified 10/1/2009

Annual Scouting for Food Drive The Northern Star Council’s Annual Scouting for Food Drive is typically in April. This is a great opportunity for all Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, and Explorers to do their Good Turn for America! What is Scouting for Food? Scouting for Food is the Council’s annual Good Turn project to help collect food for the needy families in our communities. Through this effort over 500,000 pounds of food are collected each year while Scouts have the chance to experience the good feeling that comes from helping others. Hundreds of thousands of families get to participate in this community effort to help their neighbors by contributing food donations. Scouting for Food is one of the largest food drives because it makes giving so easy by having Scouts collecting door to door.
How does it work? Each Scout Unit is assigned a geographic area in their community. During the week prior to the pickup date, Scouters distribute the Scouting for Food bags in their assigned area, letting the community know they will be around on the pickup date to collect. On the Scouting for Food collection day units go back to their area and pickup the bags that were left for them. The food is then brought to a designated food shelf were the food is sorted and distributed to families in need.
Why get involved? Approximately 1 out of every 18 people in Minnesota use food shelves and it is estimated that 45% are children and 8% are senior citizens. There are 305 food shelves in Minnesota that deliver over 36 million pounds of food and supplies to the needy, so your help is greatly appreciated. Should you have any questions contact your District Scouting for Food Chair (listed below). Remember to “do a good turn daily”.
